And the Oscar Goes To...

Delicious oscar shaped sugar cookies. Covered in homemade marshmallow fondant (which by the way is easy to make and delicious). Painted in edible gold paint.

Brownie stars!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Again, super late but I've been busy.

Valentine brownies. Covered in fondant with handmade sugar paste flowers. First attempt at sugar paste and I think it turned out pretty good.

GO TEAM CANADA!

OK this posting is just a tad late, but as they say better late than never...

Upcoming holidays

Valentine's Day is approaching which means time to start planning out some sweets for my sweetie.

I'm thinking a Valentine's Cake for the special day so I can practice my cake design. And perhaps homemade chocolates/truffles/candy for my sexy partner in crime?

We'll see and I'll post the sickeningly sweet photos after the fact.

Also although it's not for awhile ,St.Patrick's Day! I found a great recipe for chocolate cake with a Irish spin... Guinness Beer Chocolate Cake. Can't wait to make that! Even though I hate beer I'm sure it will add a special flavour to the cake.

Which reminds me of a chocolate cake tip...

TIP: When making a chocolate cake that calls for water use brewed coffee instead. The coffee will bring out the chocolate flavour and not really taste like coffee.

Cupcakes

So for my friend's birthday I decided to make cupcakes (since they are easier to transport on public transportation). They represent one of her favourite television shows. Any guesses?

Materials: Buttercream flavoured fondant for the smooth tops, black food colouring markers for the writing, gum paste for the objects on top (painted using food colouring gel*)

*TIP: Mix your food colour gels with vodka if you want to paint with them. This way they will dry and you will be able to touch the surface of your fondant or gum paste without leaving fingerprints.
