Christmas Treats and Birthday Cake!

So I made some Christmas cookies to give to my mom and grandmother. As well as a shark cake for my friend's birthday (she loves them).

Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies with white chocolate fondant icing.

Snowflake Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing and then sugared for the snow effect.

All 4 of the delicious varieties of sugar cookies.

Mint Thumbprint Cookies... so good.

The Shark Cake! Marble Cake with Vanilla frosting (marbled to look like water) make the base. The shark head is made of sculpted rice krispies and covered in fondant. Hand painted.

I also just received my Christmas present. A KitchenAid Mixer! So excited I have wanted one for so long now. I can't wait to start mixing things! heehee I'm such a baking nerd.

Some more food for thought

WHY CAN'T I FIND CANDY CORN ANYWHERE? Remember the good 'ol days when candy corn was in every store around Halloween and it haunted your dreams. Well now I can no longer find it anywhere except bulk candy stores. WTF! The same thing happened last year. I had a craving for it, because yes I am the only person in the world who would have a craving for it, and I had to go all over the map to find some. So here I am trying to make these cute little turkey desserts for my friends and I need the candy corn to make the feathery tail thing that's on a turkey, and cannot find it anywhere. I went to 4 grocery stores, Zellers, dollar stores and drugstores. No goddamn candy corn in a single one. Is this some kind of candy corn conspiracy? It all just disappeared, leaving only the bulk barn and expensive candy stores with some? Geez.

How Sweet It Is...

So now that all the stress and madness is over until next year I can finally get back to doing what I love to do most: bake.

I recently made Irish Mist Brownies. They are these really dense and fudgey brownies with a creamy mint icing and just a drizzle of semi-sweet chocolate. They were so good. The icing also used cream cheese so they were like little mint chocolate cheesecakes.

Last night I made Banana Pecan Cream Cookies. These are banana pecan cookies which sandwich a creamy vanilla icing. They are also really good. I think these ones are going into my Christmas Cookie repertoire. When making them I checked out the other cookie recipes in the book and there was one for Lemonade Cookies, which use frozen lemonade in the recipe to make these refreshing cookies. Also pina colada cookies using rum, coconut and pineapple.

And the cake decorating! I am definitely getting back into that. I was thinking of signing up for a course or 2 with all my new spare time.

Just for fun I posted some pics of previous cake work from my facebook:
